Screening Saves…On The Road!
March was a busy and exciting month as Lung Cancer Initiative took the Lung Screening Saves Lives framework on the road! Our team had the opportunity to attend and present at two impactful events: the South Carolina Public Health Association Annual Conference in Columbia, SC, and the Bridging Gaps in Cancer Screening and Cancer Prevention Symposium at Winston-Salem State University.
Both events provided meaningful opportunities to connect with public health professionals and healthcare providers from across North and South Carolina who are deeply committed to improving cancer outcomes in their communities.
At the South Carolina Public Health Association Conference, we were able to expand our network in South Carolina, share the urgency of lung cancer screening, and inspire new advocates for early detection.
At the Bridging Gaps Symposium, the importance of lung screening was powerfully reinforced during the Health Equity panel, where Dr. William Petty, Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, highlighted the critical role of equitable access to screening. Alongside discussions on breast, prostate, and blood cancer screenings, this panel served as a strong reminder of the ongoing work needed to ensure all communities are empowered to access lifesaving screenings.
We were honored to present the Screening Saves Lives framework at both events—through a concurrent session at SCPHA and a lightning session at the Bridging Gaps Symposium. Opportunities like these continue to fuel our mission and strengthen the partnerships needed to save lives through early detection.
