November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month - Screening Saves

On February 18, Lung Cancer Initiative proudly welcomed our first class of LCI Ambassadors to the LCI office for their Orientation—officially launching this exciting new volunteer program. Fifteen of the twenty inaugural Ambassadors joined us to learn about LCI’s mission, connect with staff and each other, and explore ways to make an even greater impact in their communities. Several Ambassadors are also members of our Giving Hope Society, bringing even more depth to this dedicated group.

A Network of Passionate Advocates

LCI Ambassadors serve as local champions, raising awareness, building connections, sharing their stories, and representing LCI in meaningful ways throughout North and South Carolina. What makes this group especially powerful is their personal connection to the mission. Some are lung cancer survivors, others have walked alongside loved ones through diagnosis, treatment, or loss, and many have long supported the cause as advocates. Their experiences bring compassion, authenticity, and a profound sense of purpose to their service.

    Learning, Connecting, and Growing Together

During the orientation, led by LCI Board Vice President Jim Sheegog, Ambassadors spent the day exploring LCI’s programs, strategic priorities, and opportunities for community engagement. Through training sessions, collaborative planning, and conversations with staff, they gained the tools, confidence, and messaging needed to thoughtfully represent LCI. More than anything, the day fostered connection—to the mission, to each other, and to the shared goal of bringing hope to those impacted by lung cancer.

    Purpose of the Ambassador Program

LCI Ambassadors are highly engaged volunteers recognized for exceptional leadership through sponsorship cultivation, networking, and supporting local fundraising initiatives. They expand LCI’s awareness and impact in key markets across the Carolinas, including Western NC, Charlotte, Triad, Triangle, Greenville, Eastern NC, Columbia, and Charleston. Participation is by invitation, reflecting prior contributions and a demonstrated commitment to the cause.

    Ambassadors will:

    • Serve as local champions for lung cancer awareness and education
    • Connect patients and families to trusted resources and support
    • Represent LCI at community events
    • Help grow LCI’s reach through outreach, partnerships, and storytelling
    • Advocate for research and policy efforts that improve outcomes
    Building a Network of Hope

We are inspired by the dedication, leadership, and personal commitment of our inaugural Ambassadors. Through this program, they will amplify LCI’s mission, expand community connections, and bring hope to countless lives across the Carolinas.
