My name is Lynn Dula. I was diagnosed in 2024. I had a carcinoid tumor, stage 1. As a believer, my first reaction was to pray and ask God to go before me. I needed Him to lead. Usually when you hear the word cancer, you really don’t know what lies ahead.

I was dealing with a lot of change in 2024. My adult children moved out. I left my church after 30-plus years, and I was having to jump through hoops on my job. I had surgery in July of 2024 to remove my middle and lower right lobes. No chemotherapy or radiation. I thought I was finished. But mentally, I had to come to terms with the losses in my life. I needed peace.

A friend who worked with cancer patients gave me a calendar that Novant Health put out monthly. There were so many activities available for cancer survivors, and I took advantage. I even had the opportunity to get counseling. I was introduced to a support group: LiveLung.org.

Fast forward to 2026, and I have been introduced to other organizations, the Lung Cancer Initiative being one of them.

I have decided that as a survivor, I will be an advocate for and with other lung cancer survivors. This gives me opportunities to share my story, to volunteer, and to support other lung cancer survivors.
