Advancing Hope and Inspiring Action
November is internationally recognized as LUNG CANCER AWARENESS MONTH. Throughout the month, Lung Cancer Initiative (LCI) will provide a variety of events and educational opportunities to raise awareness about lung cancer in our community and help combat the stigma of this disease. Check out our Lung Cancer Awareness Month calendar below to learn more!
Thank you to G1 Therapeutics, our sponsor for Lung Cancer Awareness Month at LCI.
There are so many ways to get involved and to support Lung Cancer Awareness Month this November. This LCAM calendar provides suggestions on how you and your friends, family and colleagues can take action to raise awareness all month long (click on the calendar to enlarge the image).
Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in the US and worldwide, but there is hope! RESEARCH is providing patients with more treatment options and longer survival than ever before. EDUCATION is helping people understand that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer and about the importance of screening–lung cancer caught in earlier stages has a much higher survival rate!
No matter who you are or how you have been impacted by lung cancer, we need you and your voice in educating, advocating and providing support.
Lung Cancer Awareness Month National Proclamation
Last week was an important week for our community. We are excited to share that President and First Lady Biden have issued a Presidential Proclamation designating November 2022 as National Lung Cancer Awareness Month! Locally, the Governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper has also issued a proclamation. We can’t think of a better way to commemorate Lung Cancer Awareness Month!
There are so many ways for you to get involved, so check out our LCAM resources web page and calendar to see how you can raise awareness and provide support all month long.
Whether virtually or online, you are invited to network with other advocates and raise awareness at events throughout the month.

EDUCATE AND ADVOCATE
Test Your Home for Radon
Rebuilding Together of the Triangle (RTT) is offering free home testing as part of their REACH grant in partnership with Lung Cancer Initiative for those in North Carolina.
If you are interested in having your home tested, please email Kelly Zargo with RTT. Test results will be provided to the owner. If radon levels are elevated to the level at which mitigation is encouraged, RTT will offer over-the-phone consultations to share options and help he owner develop a plan to mitigate the elevated radon levels.
We all have lungs, and lung cancer can impact anyone. This November, join us in raising awareness of lung cancer by designing a poster that creates hope for all those impacted by the disease and inspires us all to take action to make a difference!
Selected designs will be recognized at Lung Cancer Initiative’s annual meeting in March 2023 and may also be used on materials for lung cancer advocates. Juding criteria includes the following: creativity, attention to the theme and the inspiration of HOPE! Learn more and download our contest flyer.
